Husna—Our Newest Graduate!

Oct 28, 2019 | Students

2019 is a very big year. We will have four new high school graduates by the end of December: Elizabeth and Sua in Nicaragua graduate on December 5, Mireya in Peru on December 23, and Husna in Tanzania already graduated!

We heard from our contacts Greg and Shannon that Husna opted to graduate a few months early and took her test to get into university. She was offered nursing school and decided to accept it, although she had originally hoped to get into medical school and be a doctor. She was apparently very disappointed and afraid of disappointing us, but we are so very proud of her and can’t believe it’s flown by so quickly! Remember, this is a girl from a Muslim family, whose parents supported her going to the best school available, even if that wasn’t a Muslim school and even if it meant criticism from family and neighbors. Husna shone in school once she had the support from ONE, she knew her school fees were paid, and she wouldn’t have to leave school if her parents couldn’t pay. She was consistently in the top few students in her class, and we have no doubt she will become an extraordinary nurse.

Congratulations, Husna! You deserve all the happiness and success in the world! And thank you to all of you who have helped support Husna and our other girls. We will keep you updated on Husna’s progress as she moves through nursing school. We will find out how much her fees are and see if and how we can help her with her post-secondary education.
