Happy Bijaya Dashain and Dipawali From Nepal!

Nov 7, 2018 | Students

We recently received some wonderful cards and greetings from Nepal, along with the mid terms grades for our girls there. They just celebrated Bijaya Dashami, and are getting ready to celebrate Dipawali, the Fesitval of Light. Dashain is probably the largest festival in Nepal (and is also celebrated in India among Hindus). It falls during the Autumn season (September-October) after the monsoon rain stops and before the rice harvest. Dipawali is celebrated in Autumn every year just after Dashain. Diwali symbolizes the spiritual victory of light over darkness, good over evil, and knowledge over ignorance.

Here’s Subash’s greeting to us:

First of I would like to wish you and all a very very  Happy Bijaya Dashami and Dipawali (Festival of Light). Dashain and Dipawali are two mostly celebrated festival in Nepal. We all Nepalese celebrate it for nearly 1 month. I had so much fun in Dashain. And Dipawali is yet to come hope it will also be great with lots of fun and good moments.

Kids had also so much fun in Dashain. They got new dresses to wear and good food to eat. Some earn few sum of money like 300 to 500 Rupees as Dashain blessings in total. They were so excited to get that much sums as blessings. They had school holidays for 2 weeks and now the school had reopened already.

Subash tells us that the girls are doing well. Khusbu and Roshani still struggle with school, but they are working hard and trying. Roshani is having fun in her music class, and Bharosha loves her dance class. Recently, Amrita joined the dance class and loves it. Subash tells us that Khusbu likes to do art and sometimes dance and sing when she has a chance.

Please go to their individual pages to see their cards and a recent photo of each girl. They are all growing up so fast!

In other news, we received all the letters from our girls in Nicaragua finally, and most have been translated on to their individual pages. Michel seems to have changed her idea from agricultural school to being a teacher, but we will talk with her and see what her most recent ideas are for her post secondary school. Meghan and Christa will be heading down to her December 1 graduation at the end of the month, so we’ll send you all the photos! Please stay tuned!
