ABOUT
Kritisha came to us through Subash. She went to a different school but she came to Subash’s attention through a very sad circumstance. Here is Subash’s letter to us describing her situation:
Kritisha Pariyar lives with her uncle Sumam (her mother’s brother) and his family. A few years ago, Kritisha’s parents got divorced and her mother went to the Middle East (the Gulf states) for foreign employment. Her father married another woman and lost contact with Kritisha, so she went to live with her uncle.
Sadly, Kritisha’s mother committed suicide in the country where she had gone to work. Until that time the mother had sent income to her brother Sumam to help care for Kritisha. But after her death, he is having a problem covering the expenses for her. There are seven family members, and he makes very little to care for them all.
Sumam is a friend of my wife. He spoke with her to ask if there was any way to help with her school expenses. I met her and she seems like a good student who definitely needs the help. She tells us that she loved her teachers from last year because they were very kind and they taught well. She also says she loves to dance.
She will be attending the same school as our other girls, where Subash teaches, since her school is under construction and only goes through 5th grade. We hope that she will be happy in her new school, find many friends, and live life without many cares, as any 10 year old should.

What a difference a few months makes! Apparently Kritisha is doing really well in school and has even started to be involved in sports, which she seems to love. Subash writes that Kritisha is a polite, hardworking, and well-behaved girl. Despite her background in a community school, she has managed to achieve impressive grades. She took part in the recent sports week, and although she did not win any awards, she thoroughly enjoyed the events. She shared with me her excitement about the sports festival, as it was a new experience for her. In a lighthearted conversation, she mentioned being placed third in one of the events but not being listed officially. I encouraged her to aim for medals in the next sports meet.
Well, we don’t care if she wins medals at all; we just want her to enjoy herself, have fun, and keep studying hard! We’re so proud of her; this girl has been through so much at such a young age, and she is managing impressively.

Subash tells us that Kritisha is regularly going to school and because she is coming from a community school, her progress is a little slow. He says she’s having some problem with her English classes, because they don’t really teach much English in the community schools; one must go to a private or a government school for that. But he says she is trying and will hopefully do better soon.
