An Upcoming Celebration and Some Wonderful News for Girls

Nov 16, 2016 | Students

On November 28, three member of the ONE Board of Directors—Christa Sadler, Meghan Haslam, and Janeece Henes—will travel to Nicaragua to visit our girls there, and to see three graduations. Tatiana and Alondra have finished sixth grade and will graduate to high school. And so exciting… Karina will graduate from high school on December 3—our very first high school graduate!

Karina is already signed up for the university in Leon. She has to take an exam to determine what program she can enter, so ONE is paying for her “matricula” (enrollment), her study guide, and her class to study for the exam, as a graduation present (in addition to a few other treats!).

We are so excited to be able to share this event with her, and to share this news with all of you, since this would not be possible without your help. We were planning on sending out our year-end appeal within the next couple weeks, but since this is happening and we’d like to show you some pictures from the events, we’ll be waiting until the middle of December. Stay tuned for lots of photos!

In other, more general news, these articles actually came out several months ago, but we just were made aware of them through a friend. It is so encouraging to know that around the world, small steps are being made that have a huge effect locally and regionally.

We truly believe that it is these efforts that will make the world a more just place for women and girls (and then for everyone), and we are proud to be a small part of this effort. We hope you enjoy these articles!

Female chief in Malawi breaks up hundreds of child marriages and sends girls back to school.

Men in Tanzania face up to 30 years in prison if they marry or impregnate a school-aged girl.

The ONE family wishes all of you a very HAPPY THANKSGIVING!
