Recent News and Flagstaff First Friday

May 15, 2012 | Organization

I recently spoke with our contacts in Uganda, Nicaragua and Honduras. All the girls are doing really well. Rebecca and Naume are on school vacation, but Pastor Robert says they can’t wait to get back to school. Marina in Nicaragua tells me that the girls are all doing great in school. She’s getting their most recent report cards and will scan them and send them off as soon as she can. And I spoke with Klaudina’s mother in Tegucigalpa, Honduras, and she tells me that Klaudina has moved up to the next level in her English classes. So next time I hope to talk to Klaudina herself and have a conversation in English! Thank goodness for Skype; it has made keeping in touch with people really easy.

We were just contacted by a woman from Honduras who now lives in Phoenix. She wants to nominate a young lady from Tegucigalpa, and is very supportive of the goals of the program. We look forward to getting her application and meeting this new young lady!

For anyone who lives in the Flagstaff area, ONE will be featured at West of the Moon Gallery in Flagstaff for the June First Friday Artwalk. We’ll have information about the program and the girls, and we’ll be selling beautiful pine needle baskets from Nicaragua to help raise money and awareness. Please join us if you can, it’s a great event and there are always lots of fun things happening at all the galleries. Thanks so much to Carolyn from West of the Moon for hosting us and supporting ONE’s mission—her gallery alone is worth the visit!

WHEN: Friday, June 1, 6 PM to 9 PM
WHERE: West of the Moon Gallery, 14 N. San Francisco St. Flagstaff
